Everyone around the country will be watching anxiously during the Olympic basketball semifinals between USA and Argentina to see how the rivalry and growing tension plays out after Carmelo Anthony received a punch to the groin from opponent Facundo Campazzo.
The “cheap shot” came during a 3-pointer from Anthony in the last few seconds of the third quarter, taking USA into the lead for a 126-97 victory against Argentina.
Anthony says they were angry because they knew it was “uncalled for” and wouldn’t happen in their league.
“Nobody takes cheap shots like that,” Anthony said. “That was a cheap shot. He got one, he took it, he got away with it. There’s nothing we can do about it.”
Campazzo justified his “cheap shot” by accusing Chris Paul of punching him earlier on in the game.
