Fitmark Athlete Sarah Hopping recaps the days event and what she learned.
It’s a wrap! 6 events later, our team emerged from the Holiday Invitational hosted by CrossFit One World and Catalyst Athletics in second place behind Invictus. Everyone did a great job today, and it was a fun event all around!
I believe a recap of the event can be viewed at www.sicfit.com if anyone is interested. In short, our team worked together well, strategized effectively and executed as we hoped to. In the final event, a winner-takes-all showdown between Invictus and us, I was unable to do strict handstand pushups fast enough for our team to emerge victorious. Ack!
While part of me was totally frustrated by this – the last thing I wanted to do was lose the championship match for my team – a bigger part of me is pretty grateful. First of all, I did 32 strict handstand pushups today. My prior 1 day PR was 1. Even though it felt impossible, I was able to continue trying, and thankfully was able to be a little bit successful, just too slow. Second, two years ago today I was spending my evening in this very spot. but I had just gotten a plate put in my elbow. At that point I had no idea whether my arm would ever straighten again, much less be able to support loads overhead. Every time I compete, work out, or even think about working out, I’m still a little floored that I’m even able to do it at all. Third, I am just astounded by how awesome the people in NorCal are. First off, my teammates rocked. They are all such amazing athletes, and such nice people. Second, Rob, John and Elle were there cheering for me, and it was awesome to have their support. Fourth, the hosts – CrossFit One World and Catalyst Athletics – and the sponsors – including Pro Anox, SICFIT, WodShop, and others – did an awesome job putting on a first class event. Finally, the other competitors were all so cool. It made me wish the competition were several days, and included an after party. I just wanted to hang out there for days.
I feel tremendously fortunate to be a part of this sport. Can’t wait to do Rob’s favorite workout with all of you tomorrow!
