Fitmark Ambassador Elspeth Polt talks motivation and fitness
Welcome to 2013! I know you’re probably thinking, ‘Oh great, yet ANOTHER motivational you can do it! blurb’…And in some ways, yes you’re right. I do like to be everyone’s biggest cheerleader:) But don’t give up on me just yet- keep reading!

There seems to be a lot of mixed opinions about setting New Year’s Resolutions. Usually people fall into 1 of these 3 categories:
1. Love it, can’t wait to make my resolutions! (Love it)
2. What’s the point, I set goals all year long. (Hate it)
3. Don’t care, not going to follow through anyway. (Indifferent)
If you can relate to one of these, take a minute and think about why you fit into that category. Whatever your reasons are for feeling the way you do, make sure they’re coming from a positive place. (Let me explain) If you love setting new years resolutions that’s awesome! Great, go after it! If you set goals year round I’m guessing you stay pretty motivated all the time so kudos to you! And if New Year’s resolutions aren’t really your thing, that’s okay too. But make sure if you don’t have a goal in mind that you’re not, NOT setting it because of fear. I think sometimes we don’t go after what we truly want because of the fear of failure. Which is completely natural, but something that needs to be overcome. There will always be a hint of fear when you step out of your comfort zone, but that is when real progress and growth happens. It’s worth it, believe me. Don’t let a negative take over your POSITIVE!
Personally, I’m a huge fan of setting goals in general. So give me a national holiday to promote it, then heck yes I’m in! Yes, it is important to set goals and plan ahead year round, but if having a New Year’s resolution is the push you need to get started, then by all means use that as your jump start! A new year is a clean slate, so why not take full advantage of it?! Just make sure you have a plan. Have you thought about how you’re going to achieve your goals/ resolutions? If not, set aside some quiet time and write down your goals, create a vision board, and map out a clear plan of attack. You can do it! (sorry, there’s that inner cheerleader again!) Having a plan will ensure you keep motivation high, stay on track, and ultimately have a much higher success rate.
If there’s a bad habit you need to kick, an obstacle (physical or mental) you want to overcome, or a goal you want to achieve the time is NOW! Write down your goals, create a plan of attack, and go after it! Don’t let fear or negativity stand in the way of your success. Make 2013 YOUR year! Because you know what? You’re worth it 🙂
Stay fit,
