Fitmark Ambassador Alan McKearney talks about setting new goals
I find that sometimes when things get tough in this sport (bodybuilding), that the first thing that goes is our motivation to continue on. This is a problem I have encountered on multiple occasions, and something that can be both a good and bad thing. I’m going to explain how to make the best of a brief lack of motivation.
If you find that you aren’t motivated to go to the gym like you used to be, this may not be the major problem that many people believe it is. A lack of motivation could be due to many things. It could be as simple as something else being on your mind, excess stress, lack of sleep, or lack of progress. If you are not getting enough sleep then it will be tough to get going at the gym, because you will be excessively tired. An excess amount of stress can also hold you back by not allowing you to focus.
On the bright side though, if you find that you are no longer motivated because you are not making the progression that you hoped you would be, then this can be a great thing. How can this be good you ask? Well its quite simple, when you find you are not making the progress you want, you have a great opportunity to re-evaluate what it is that you’re doing, both in the gym and the kitchen. You then have the opportunity to set new goals and vary things up. In other words, this lack of motivation can give a chance to get a fresh start.
A lack of motivation may hold you back in the gym in the short term. Though if used as an opportunity to re-evaluate everything you do, then it can be a great opportunity for you to make the changes you need to succeed.
