It’s that time of year again. Getting into shape is at the top of your New Year resolution list. But like every year before, it never quite makes it beyond a few months. Why? Because of three missing elements completely within your control.
Planning, Knowledge & Commitment.
Planning because even if you have all the time in the world, if you wake up without an agenda, you won’t train or eat properly. Have a weekly training program ready to go. Commit to a time that you will train. Plan and prepare your meals for the week. Schedule a day to shop, cook and store your food. What will you pack your meals into to? How will you keep them fresh? You see if you plan it well, you’ll be able to form lasting behaviors that will ensure your success.
Knowledge, don’t know what to do? There are resources everywhere both free and paid. Electronic and personal. Pick one and make it part of your daily plan. But take responsibility for what you learn! Make gaining knowledge part of your plan. Why are you eating certain foods at certain times? How does what you eat effect how you recover? Why are the exercises in thus order? Why this duration of time? Become an expert on your body.
Commitment, it can’t be an option. It can’t be something you can skip. Schedule it like you schedule going to work because it is just as important. Sure, work makes you money. But being unhealthy costs you money.
Build your foundation. Plan it, commit to it and use the knowledge available. When the next new year arrives, you’ll be scratching getting into shape “off” of your list instead of adding it.
