Fitmark Ambassador Elspeth Polt encourages you to spend time on yourself for your own well being
Why is it that when we do something for ourselves that a feeling of guilt often accompanies it short afterward? I hear this from many of my friends and clients, especially when it comes everything it takes to stay healthy.
It’s like we feel guilt for doing something that makes us healthy and happy?! Whats up with that?! Having a fitness/ health related goal to work towards can give a person a great sense of motivation and self accomplishment (thus boosting confidence and creating a better overall feeling of wellness/ happiness) This is something we could all use more of!
Creating a fitness goal is one of the easiest, and most rewarding, ways to boost your quality of life. The Benefits of fitness carry throughout all parts if your life: physical, mental, social, personal, and even your career. To name just a few:
*Your Health: working out doesn’t just give you a great physique, but will greatly improve your overall health.
*Setting a positive example for those around you. Be a positive role model for your kids, friends, family, coworkers, anyone! Think how you decided to start working out- did someone influence you? Pay it forward by being a positive role model and positively influencing those around you.
*Mentally and physically pushing yourself. Creating a challenge and overcoming it will boost your confidence and fuel your fire to keep pushing! Often this dedication and hard work will cross over into other areas of your life, creating a more productive and successful life in general.
*The gift that keeps on giving! You will be reaping the benefits, both internal and external, for years to come.
*Confidence booster! It may sound a little vain, but who doesn’t love looking into the mirror and thinking,”dang I look good!”
*Age reverser. Say goodbye to expensive surgeries and fad diets-turn the clocks back with some good old sweat and hard work.
Yet, as great as all of these benefits are there are still many people who don’t take advantage of these amazing benefits. I commonly hear:
-It takes time away from my kids/ spouse/ family
-I don’t have time- there are too many other priorities that are more important.
-I don’t like working out.
-I don’t know where to even start.
While I can understand these may be valid reasons, I am a firm believer in where there’s a will, there’s a way! If family time is an issue, make it a family affair: go hiking, swimming, to the park, play wii, daycare at the gym. I’m not a mom, but I know many who are and are making it work! I know it’s hard, but you can do it! Time, I’m not gonna sugar coat this one- we’re ALL BUSY, find the time and make it work! Cant find something you like? Search harder! There is something out there for EVERYONE: weights, cross fit, step, kickboxing, Zumba, strip tease, burlesque, yoga, running, spinning, Pilates, kettle bells, group classes, one on one training, videos at home, the list goes on and on!
I know it can be overwhelming with all the options, so hiring a personal (if your budget allows) can be extremely beneficial. If not, don’t worry! There are many online resources that can help guide you along the way. And do keep in mind not everyone has to be super buff or an elite athlete, but you do owe it to yourself to take care of your body. Because its the only one you’ve got! You owe it to yourself to give yourself the “gift” of fitness to be healthy for you and those around you. Find something that you enjoy and that compliments your needs. Fitness can be a part of anyone’s lifestyle: you deserve it!
