Fitmark Ambassador Erin Weiss shares some tips on how to make cardio training more interesting by changing it up
Although running on a treadmill may seem fun for a while, a successful fitness routine should be changed regularly to prevent boredom and to keep your body guessing. In order to change up your fitness routine, think back to what activities you did when you were younger. If you played a sport growing up, get involved in it again. There are usually always pickup games or leagues you can find within your city. For example, if you used to play soccer growing up, but don’t want to commit to a team, all you need to do is lace up your cleats and head out to a local soccer field. You don’t even need a team to have an intense yet fun workout.
There’s nothing like incorporating an exercise that you used to be so familiar with into your current fitness routine. It will help keep your workouts new and exciting.
Here are a couple fun ideas for you to switch up your cardio workouts:
- Hit the soccer field or basketball court. Do some drills and shoot around
- Do a local “mud run” for cardio
- Take a class at your gym
- Take the dog for a run around the neighborhood
- Find a local hill and run to the top, while walking back down to recover
- Go on a hike
It’s very important to switch up your workout routine so your body doesn’t get used to the same thing. Always keep your body guessing in order to continue to see changes in your physique without hitting a plateau. Who knows, you may even find yourself picking up an old hobby again!
