Fitmark Ambassador Andrew Bukowsky gives you a few tips on how to make fitness a lifestyle that works
This question seems so simple on the surface, but is really one of the most important questions any person needs to ask when looking to begin getting fit. Too often we hear about the latest fitness trend, or fad diet that everyone is trying. The reason why so many people see this as the way to get started, is because they see the “quick-fix” that is promised by these programs. If anyone truly wants to make a difference in their health and fitness, they must find the path to changing their habits into living a new lifestyle.
Here are a few tips to take into consideration when getting started, to help with a successful transition into your new health and fitness lifestyle. First, start by making small changes. If you make too many drastic changes to your daily habits right out of the gate, you are setting yourself up for a greater chance of failure.
When it comes to your fitness level, take the time to think about what “getting fit” actually means to you. Are you looking to lose weight, if so how much? Do you want to gain muscle, tone up, or even improve your cardiovascular health? Whatever your goal is, be as specific as possible and start a journal. This way you can set measurable targets that you can work towards. As you start to work towards reaching these goals, recognize and celebrate small victories along the way.
If possible, find a friend or family member to join you on your journey. People are much more likely to succeed when they have a partner to support them in their fitness goals. It is the same as if you were planning to be successful in business. You should “dress for success”. Buy a new pair of shoes, a new shirt, even coordinate your outfit for the gym, so that you feel good when you are out for your workouts. Why not get yourself a new stylish bag to complement your new wardrobe? When starting out, motivation is key to keeping you going with fitness. When you make an effort to look good, chances are you are going to feel good.
Remember, getting fit and healthy is a journey and not a destination. Stay focused and believe in your ability to succeed.
