Fitmark Ambassador Jennifer Adams shares how she discovered that running is her drug of choice
Running has been my drug of choice for several years now. It’s been a lover of mine off and on since Jr High when my tall, leggy, uncomfortable in my own skin self was drafted onto the track team. Fitness, however has been a steady date since I was a child. Even with sedentary parents and poor eating, I always needed to exert physical energy.
My daughter, Bri and my best friend Kelly Kalley in NYC are training for their first fitness competitions and another friend of mine – also named Kelly – does competitions regularly. Feeling caught up in their enthusiasm and sometimes missing weight training and pushing myself to look good enough to be on stage, I am nostalgic for the days when I did competitions myself.
Yes, I actually won a couple
Although it would be fun to have another go around, it would most likely end up a brief, passionate fling. In the end running is my true love, my soulmate, my best friend. However much I might sometimes long for past lovers I always return to running. There is always more to do, always another PR, always a way to push myself more.
There are tough runs and euphoria, great runs and additional mileage. Running makes me blessedly relaxed. I feel at peace. I have teammates and a coach via Endurance Reno, some pretty great sponsors through the team but yet running doesn’t consume my life. I work full time, am a sales rep for two amazing companies (yes, one of them is Fitmark!!) and don’t feel like I compromise my family. I can set a good, healthy, active example for my kids – all 13 of them – with a sport they can easily and relatively inexpensively participate in with me. If they stick with it – great – but it’s more about setting an example for a fit, active, healthy lifestyle. I know from experience that a physical outlet, looking and feeling good can make a difference in every aspect of life.
I heart running!! Post half marathon last summer. 14th overall, 4th woman, 1st in age division!!
