Fitmark Ambassador Alana Wilbur encourages you to stay on track with a few mental tips
Itʼs really easy to get caught up in the immediate excitement of a new fitness lifestyle. Deciding you are going to make a change for the better really is where the journey begins, but implementing the day to day is where the hard work starts. Putting in the sweat equity is one component, but setting yourself up for success is like the gasoline to your bodyʼs engine. Here are a few common hiccups we all experience at one point:
1) The “F” word: FAILURE. There, you said it. Now move on and back away. Making a lifestyle change is a series of trial and error. So what if your last health routine pretty much crashed and burned!? Total health is a giant experiment. If you, and you alone, make a CHOICE to live a healthy life, take the “f” word out of your vocabulary.
2) Bad Habits. These have to be nipped in the bud ASAP. A few examples: late night indulgences, drinking too much, having “just a bite” 10+ times a day, putting off the gym, etc. Anticipate you will not want to go to the grocery store after work. Donʼt worry! Set aside one day a week to prepare for your week ahead and plan your workout calendar. Before you know it, you will become a pro at planning!
3) Feeling Unworthy. So you missed your workouts last week…today is a new day! There is no time like the present to transform into the best you possible. Nothing will boost your self-esteem like accomplishing something you never thought possible. Set a goal, and envision yourself relishing in what it will feel like to accomplish it.
4) Seeing the Big Picture. The real journey begins once you reach your fitness goals. Now youʼre on a quest to find personal balance, so ask yourself what works for you. Everyone is different, so know that the answers are not black or white. Celebrate the little things, because that adds up to your overall success!
Remember, there is no greater feeling than that of self fulfilled success. You are extraordinary, so donʼt ever fear failure! Be kind to others, be kind to your body, and lift heavy!
