Fitmark Ambassador Robin Romero encourages to clean up your training with some simple yet effective exercise switches
Spring is upon, and we all know that means time for some Spring Cleaning! Clean out those closets, out with the old, in with the new! But how about cleaning up your workout this Spring? Time to swap out some old exercise for some more effective ones! These are all exercises that do not require a gym, which means you can do them in your hotel room on Spring Break!
Instead of Walking Lunges, clean it up with Bulgarian Split Squats!
Elevate one leg on a chair behind you with the top of your foot lying on the bench. With your hands on your hips, or holding something heavy at your chest, lower yourself until the thigh of your supporting leg is parallel to the ground. Your supporting leg should be far enough from the bench that your knee does not pass your toes when you squat down. Return so that your supporting leg is straight. Why are these better than Walking Lunges? You work the very important stability muscles in your ankles and knees!
Instead of Weighted Side Bends, clean it up with Russian Twists!
Sit on the floor with your hips and knees bent at 90 degrees. With your arms across your chest or holding something heavy in front of you, twist your torso slowly from side to side making sure you maintain good alignment in your spine. Why are these better than weighted side bends? Russian Twists will help create a strong tight core as opposed to weighted side bends that can add bulk to your obliques which can create a wider waistline.
Instead of stomping away on the Stepmill, clean it up with some outdoor Sprint Intervals!
Sprint Intervals are a great way to rev up that calorie burn! They are much easier to do outside than they are in a gym because your own body controls the turnover instead of punching numbers into a stepmill or treadmill. Start off with a 5 minute jog as a warm up, then sprint as FAST as you can for 20 seconds. Return to a jog for 2 minutes, sprint for 20 seconds, jog of 2 minutes, etc. Then cool down with another 5 minute job. Why are Sprint Intervals better? They increase your anaerobic threshold and help you burn more calories and fat not only during your workout, but even afterwards while you’re recovering!
