Fitmark Ambassador Andrew Bukowsky encourages you to make time for activities you enjoy to keep balance in life
It is so often that many of us find ourselves constantly chasing time and the feeling that there just is not enough hours in the day. Personally, I can say I feel this way myself from time to time. With all of the responsibilities and obligations we have in our lives, be it work, family, friends, hobbies, etc. life can get busy and leave us with a feeling of exhaustion. For myself, I have to be honest and say that when my life gets to this point, not only do I feel exhausted, but at times I can even feel a sense of failure. I mean that when life gets so busy with everything happening all at once, I am not able to feel that sense of accomplishment I get when all of my tasks are completed.
This past weekend, with the weather being clear and warm so early into Spring, my family and I committed to each other that we would focus on spending time together. This does not mean to say that our weekend was not still busy, but we were able to spend time with each other and some close friends, doing activities we love to do. This is something that is so important to be able to maintain your sense of life balance, as well as keeping your bonds of friendship and family stability strong.
As much as I would love to have the opportunity to spend every weekend in this way, I realize it is not always possible, but I highly recommend looking for ways you too can add in activities you truly enjoy into your routine. The times we feel are the most hectic, are the best times to re-work our schedules to make time for the people and activities that we most like to do.
This past weekend, I was feeling stressed and overwhelmed with everything I have on the go right now. I work full-time, plus I am in the last few weeks of preparation for the Natural Nationals in Winnipeg for Men’s Physique. Between work, food prep, intense training and all of our other daily balancing acts, my wife and I recognized that it was time for a bit of a change of pace. We started by catching a movie, just the two of us. It was an easy comedy, but allowed us to work on getting some quality time with each other. We followed up with a day of training together with the two of us and our daughter. After this, we went on to a session of posing practice with our group of close friends that are also fitness competitors. Finally, we got outside with another group of close friends to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and went on a local hike together, followed by a couple of iced coffees and an ice cream treat for our daughter.
In our busy, hectic lives, one of the hardest things to do is slow down and rest. I know for me this is something I am constantly struggling with, so I am truly grateful for the amazing group of family, friends and colleagues that I am surrounded by, to help me keep this balance in my life. The lives we live are meant to enjoy, so make sure you are making time for it, whatever “it” may be for you.
