There is an on-going trend in the fitness industry that is very interesting, and it sounds something like this:
“You shouldn’t lift that heavy”
“Calorie counting is useless”
I could go on for days at all the banter and name calling that is going on out there. It seems that every style of dieting, training, and fitness lifestyles in general is has a group of people out to demean and condemn every other style.
Let’s use CrossFit as an example. I have never seen something so controversial that, most likely, was only created to give people another way to get in shape and life a fit life other than the existing options. Now don’t get me wrong, I have heard and seen some VERY silly and false statements and claims to come out of the CrossFit crowd. However, I’ve also heard some just-plain-dumb things come out of bodybuilder’s mouths as well.
Every different style of fitness is going to have the well-trained, well-informed, well-intended trainers and promoters of said style. They will also have the idiots who are only out for money, have no idea what they are doing, and could result in severely damaged clients. That’s the world we live in. It is up to the individual to do their research to find a well educated facility with a good history and great reviews from people just like them.
That being said, if it takes a completely different method than what you love for someone else to find a healthier life, then so be it! Let them enjoy what they are doing. Does it hurt you? NOPE. At least they are doing SOMETHING about their life, which more than MOST people in this country can say!
