When you decide to take the plunge and embark on leading a healthier lifestyle, there will be inevitable changes that will need to be made. Maybe it’s cleaning out the refrigerator, or ditching the drive-thru. It could be joining the gym, or starting to workout with a partner (accountabili-buddy anyone?). Heck, it could be as simple as going to bed an hour earlier! But before you go changing everything down to the toilet paper in your house, take a step back and evaluate what exactly needs to be adjusted. In the words of Sheryl Crow, “a change would do you good”.
Ask yourself what your desired end result is. In the weight room, and in life, set a goal. Apply the necessary changes to achieve your goal and hold YOURSELF accountable. Don’t be afraid if it doesn’t always pan out the way you imagined. Control what you can, and chalk up the rest to life’s speed bumps. There is only so much we can regulate on a day to day basis, because let’s face it, sometimes life gets in the way. You set a goal for a reason, and you deserve to achieve it. Control your environment, and eliminate the negative chatter from you and those around you who don’t support your new lifestyle. Along the way, make adjustments as needed, but don’t go changing everything all at once. The name of the game is lifestyle sustainability.
Living fit is not a fad or a new trend, however it is a mindset. One of my favorite quotes is from Andrew Carnegie, “The man who acquires the ability to take full possession of his own mind may take possession of anything else to which he is justly entitled.” Sometimes we just need a little reminder that the mind is the most powerful muscle, so get to flexin’!
