Fitness is for everyone! That’s what everyone is saying right? As a mom of a busy toddler I know that it’s my responsibility to teach her all about exercise and fitness. How do I do it? I lead by example! Last October, I ran the Title IX women’s race in Chicago and while I was thrilled to PR with a 7:31 pace, it was the first time my daughter ran in a kids dash. At the end, why was she sad? She told me she wanted the race to be longer!
Each morning I get up and get my workout in at 5am before my daughter wakes up. I’m usually coming up from the basement or coming back from a run (if it’s the summer) as she is starting to wake up. My husband hits the gym before he comes home from dinner. Living in exercise clothes, being sweaty is something our daughter is just used to!
Our basement is filled with toys and exercise equipment and her favorite “toy” is our Bosu! Together we jump and balance. We run to the park in the spring, have dance parties every night after dinner and play in the backyard whenever can. Fitness and movement is apart our family and it’s fun! I love that my daughter loves to exercise and I know that I am doing my part as a parent to set an example and this is one example that is truly easy to set!
