I found one of the greatest tools for overcoming obstacles is the simple process of self-reflection. I can’t emphasize enough how pivotal self-reflection has been for overcoming obstacles, making informed decisions, identifying weaknesses, and discovering potential. It may sound trivial at first, and honestly may feel like a waste of time, but like other skills you get better with time and practice; and so will the benefits you reap! How can you know if you are making progress toward where you want to be without taking a look around to see if you are on the right path?
I highly encourage everyone to set aside a block of time. Whether it’s daily, weekly, or monthly; and actively and wholeheartedly engage in objective self-reflection. Are you making informed decisions? Are you meeting your goals? Are you content, happy, or satisfied with your decision making and ramifications if those decisions? Dig deep down and ask yourself… am I putting in the effort I know I can?
Ask yourself these questions and challenge yourself to answer honestly. The beauty of this approach is that it can be applied to all facets of life; and, if done correctly, can drastically improve your success in fitness, work, and life! For example, by reflecting back on your total health and fitness routine, examining your progress, and recognizing how your own unique body responds you can then make adjustments tailored toward achieving your goals. Fitness, health, and life aren’t one size fits all so self-reflection can help you figure out how to curtail it to optimize results.
