Each month, I receive dozens of emails from people asking me to give them the motivation they need to reach their fitness goals. Some claim to have fallen off track, others haven’t even begun their journey; all are waiting on me to provide them that fitness jumpstart. I can give them a good pep talk, show before and after photos of my clients, or send motivational quotes, but as renowned author Steven Covey says, “Motivation is a fire from within. If someone tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly.”
Where can you find motivation? For starters, motivation does not always come before an activity. There are days when I am so busy running my business and going to school that I just do not feel like going to the gym. There are days when I don’t feel like prepping meals. If I focused on those feelings, chances are I would never live as healthy. Instead, I think about how great I feel after a workout and those positive feelings are my motivation to get up and get moving!
If you focus on how you want to feel – happy, healthy, vibrant, energetic, confident – and less on how you feel in the moment, you will find the motivation from within to make healthy lifestyle changes and stick to them. The way you want to feel will be the motivation you will need to achieve your fitness goals.
