Many people don’t work out because it is just that, work. Now that spring has officially sprung after the snowiest April on record here in Minnesota it’s time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! When you workout becomes fun it becomes habit, so let’s get started on the right foot. Here are some simple tips to help you get active and stay that way, and maybe even find that beach body you have been looking for all winter.
First let’s find something fun. I don’t know one person that can say “I hate nice weather!” Step one: GET OUTSIDE! Who cares what you are doing, get outside and enjoy the weather. Maybe your dog is itching to go on a walk, maybe that garden of yours could use some love, maybe that baseball mitt could use some breaking in (I know mine could!) I think it’s safe to say that as long as you are outside you can find a way to get moving, and I bet you’ll even enjoy it.
Step two: Grab a partner. Call up your friend or a good motivator; it’s hard to sit on the couch all day when there is someone else with you. Minnesota is the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” and they are a heck of a lot more fun when you have someone with you. Running doesn’t seem like as work when you have someone to take your mind off the task! I may not know where you are reading this from, but I am willing be bet there are some great parks near you. Take a hike somewhere you haven’t been, explore your backyard a little and see what your area has to offer.
Spring weather is too nice to pass up and before you know it, old man winter will be right around the corner. For many of us it means hunkering down inside and hibernate a bit. Let’s take advantage of the time we have now and build some great habits and have a blast doing it. Remember these two simple steps this spring and summer season and I bet you will be surprised how much more fun you will have! Not to mention you might find yourself in better shape than when you started!
