I moved to Colorado a little over a year ago and I’ve found it to be a fitness lovers dream. There are so many physical activities to participate in every season. Colorado of course is known for skiing and snowboarding in the winter, but there is oh so much more. We run, we bike and we even rock climb! I have personally found a new love for hiking.
I am one who normally loves to be in the gym. I love the feeling of being around other people working towards their fitness goals. I also love the high I get after I’ve completed a solid lifting session. Hiking is different though. Hiking gets you out into nature. You begin to feel like you are one with the earth. Seeing and touching God’s creation in nature does something for your soul. It brings a calm to your spirit.
When you hike your sense of time is lost by being in awe of your surroundings. On the last hike I did, my family and I walked for over an hour and it felt like 10 minutes. As we walked we sighted a beautiful family of Deer along the path. The sounds in woods are amazing also, we heard a continuous pecking noise as we walked along. Finally we sighted the little guy responsible, a tiny woodpecker making a hole in the tree beside us.
Living in Colorado has taught me that you don’t have to live in the gym to be active. Getting outdoors and active with your body brings about a sense of accomplishment all while keeping you fit and healthy!
