“The expert at anything was once a beginner.” –Hayes
Often times when we embark on new journeys we will fail. We have the expectation set that we will succeed. Who doesn’t want to achieve their goals on the first attempt? The truth is, only a select few people do.
I encountered the feeling of failure in the past two weeks and I was just ready to throw in the towel. I have felt this way numerous times in my competing career and I forced myself to think differently this time. I literally said to my boyfriend, “This is my dream, this is what I enjoy, why do I let my placing determine my success?” I know, I know, that is a comment full of irony.
Why should we let others determine how successful we are? Shouldn’t attempting our goals be considered a success in itself? What I’m trying to tell all of you is that if you enjoy what you’re doing, who cares if you aren’t that great at it right now? Your passion for what you’re doing is going to make you successful. I always think of Albert Einstein in these situations. He was written off as a madman who would never amount to anything when really he was a genius. This can apply to us all! People think I’m crazy because I involve myself in so many things and I am always on the go. That is how I thrive! I involve myself in as many activities that involve fitness and I get comments such as, “You’re always doing something that involves working out…why?” My answer, “Because I was meant to do this.”
Don’t give up no matter how many times you fail! If you enjoy it, enjoy ALL of it!
