It’s common to find comfort in routine and familiarity; in fact, I think it is human nature to seek out patterns and acclimatize oneself to new environments. I completely understand this tendency because it does feel great to be comfortable and confident with your surroundings. I do, however, think it’s imperative to challenge yourself to step outside of your comfort zone – in both your fitness endeavors and personal life – to strengthen your core (in fitness) and foundation (in life)!
I highly encourage you to try something completely new. For training, I recently started doing all of my standing exercises on one leg to build a stronger core. Yes, you may have to drop weight and take a blow to the ego, but a reality check on your ego can be healthy. Have you been considering yoga, dance, cross-fit, or power lifting lately, but haven’t mustered up the courage to do it? Well what are you waiting for? Go out there and try it!
We all can benefit a bit more by pushing ourselves to step out of our comfort zone. Most people reading this article are familiar with the concept of exercises to break down a muscle and refueling and resting to rebuild it and be stronger than ever. Well take that concept and apply it to your comfort zone in life. I certainly think you will find that you grow a stronger core in your fitness life and bolster your foundation in your personal life!
