Are you one of those gals who braves the gym, yoga studio, or running path bare-faced in all your natural glory? If you are, kudos, my friend. Not this chick. I am all about making myself look as cute as I possible when working out and on any day when my motivation to look nice trumps my fatigue or laziness. I do it for myself more than I do it for anyone else’s benefit. I just like to see my reflection in the mirror and smile. I think there are more than a few of you out there who can relate to what I’m saying.
However, when it comes to working out and makeup, often time the two don’t like to mix. When you really work up a sweat, things did to bead, clump, run, and just generally end up looking like a hot mess of black, pink and beige smudged all over your otherwise pretty face. So, that’s why I’m always on the look out for products that can stand up to sweaty workouts.
Most of the time, I don’t wear a full face of makeup to workout. Some concealer, maybe a BB cream, but always mascara and eyeliner. Without those two things my eyes just kind of disappear. As you might imagine, eyeliner can become a real disaster if it runs or smudges easily. And there are MANY that claim not to smudge but do. Of course, the cosmetic companies are probably testing these producs on people working in an office not sweating it out in hot yoga or CrossFit classes, so I suppose I should give them a break. But, still, I need budge proof products so I am always on the look out for promising new cosmetics.
So, as usual, when I saw Stila’s Stay All Day liquid eyeliner, I was hopeful but skeptical. Could this baby really make it through a day of sweating, shopping, maybe even the beach? Well, I gave that baby a real test run.
I applied this early in the morning before I headed out for the day. First, the color is great. It’s a very dark, inky black. No weird grey or faded look with this stuff. Also, it was pretty easy to apply. It’s a felt tip liquid liner. Some felt tips are very stiff and they actually hurt when you use them. Stila got it right with this one. No pain and you can easily create a subtle or dramatic line or cat eye. I prefer felt tips to those thin, fiber tipped liquid liners because, despite years of experience using liquid liners, I still can’t manage to use the fiber tips without making it look like a kindergartener applied my makeup. So, I am pleased with this prodcuts thus far. Now, can it hold up to a day full of activities?
First stop: the beach! I went on about a 49 minute jog. No budging. No smearing. Nada. I went san sunglasses all day too so there was lots of squinting. Bad for my eyes and crow’s feet but good for reviewing purposes.
Next on the angenda: writing! I did tons of writing today which normally involves we rubbing my eyes about every 10 minutes. Still, no smudging. I looked nice and put together for all my fellow coffee drinkers and the baristas.
Then for the real test: a CrossFit workout, outside in the Florida heat and humidity. For the record, I live in Sarasota, which is on the Gulf Coast. It rains almost every single day like clockwork. When I worked out it was 1:30 in the afternoon, 96 degrees and 63% humidity. You break sweat just walking outside in this kind of weather. I did a metcon involving lots of handstand pushups, knees to elbows, l-sits, then more handstand pushups and hollow rocks. It was a shoulder and ab show down! As you can see from the pictures there may be a tiny bit of smudging just below my eyes but not much. Oh and I did absolutely no makeup touchups throughout the entire day. What you see is what you get.
Then, more writing, another sweaty walk with the dog that was interrupted by a torrential down pour (see pics) and then a long drive to Tampa to pick up my husband from the airport. Eyeliner still intact! Nothing budged this stuff! In fact, I took a shower and my normal face wash wouldn’t even get rid of it. I actually laughed out loud when I looked in the mirror after my shower expecting a clean face and saw eyeliner everywhere. Keep in mind, I scrubbed my face with a face wash not designed to take off long-wear products. Once swipe with some coconut oil and the stuff was gone, however. I consider this liner a keeper. It lasted all day, didn’t irritate my eyes, and was almost too good at staying put! This is definitely one to keep in your gym bag, girls!
