I know this girl. She was teased a lot as a child. She was teased for being as thin as a rail, for having a nose that her face was incapable of growing into, for being a goody two-shoes, for wearing clothes that were never in style, for just being so WEIRD! So she cried, a lot. And she was teased for that too.
One day she fell in love. She fell in love with cold heavy iron, the touch, the noise. She fell in love with being covered in sweat. With the stench of hard work. With the burn of lactic acid in exhausted muscles. She fell in love breaking down and building back up. With callused hands. She fell in love with pushing when her mind would say “Stop!” but her heart would say “Just one… more… REP!” She fell in love with making herself stronger.
It may have taken thirty years – but after falling in love with the weights, she fell in love with herself.
