Each month, I challenge myself to pause and engage in a moment of self-reflection to better evaluate the attributes that allow me and others to succeed with their goals. I do my very best to discover qualities and characteristics that can be applied to all facets of life and then proceed to share them with others. This month, I encourage everyone to take a step back, slow down, and enjoy the often overlooked aspects of life and fitness.
I challenge you to slow down in your fitness routine this month. Do your very best to focus on the negative portion of your exercises and decrease tempo of your exercises to ensure the best possible form regardless of the exercise you’re performing. The “negative” portion of an exercise is when you are bringing the weight back to the starting position. If you have trouble slowing down your workout routine, try incorporating stretches in between sets. This trivial change to your routine can yield tremendous results! What’s more, this same concept can be applied to your family, social, and professional life as well. In your social life, trying making dinner with your friends and family the “main event” of the night rather than trying to rush through dinner to go do other things. I’ve had some great conversations and good laughs over long, home-cooked meals at home – and it’s economical!
So this month, try slowing things down a bit. You may be surprised that you actually accomplish more than you typically do, and you will certainly produce higher quality results. You’ll also be pleasantly surprised that by participating in this challenge you’ll also have less stress, which in turn will lead to better gain in the fitness realm and better relationships in your personal lives!
