Everyone has been involved in some form of encouragement whether you are giving or receiving it throughout your lifetime. This is something I see in the fitness/health industry and in your normal everyday life. Positive encouragement makes a huge difference to someone else. Who would have thought something so small and easy could make such a difference? Well it can and I have been one as of late to receive it and notice it. This makes me want to be even more helpful and encouraging to those around me and spread the word.
Think of when you hear the negative comments and how that affects you and what you’re doing. This will help you see what encouragement can do not only for you but for those around you. You may not realize the effect it has on someone else when you tell them great work, but think to when you are encouraged. Maybe it’s that last rep in the gym or walking on a treadmill and someone comes up to you and says “Keep it up”, “Good work” or “You’re looking great”. It gives you a boost of confidence and makes you want to finish. It keeps you motivated and pushing for your goals in the gym and at work or in life. Simply ending a conversation with “Best of luck and keep me updated” will let someone know you truly care about what they are doing.
I always think back to when I am struggling through a workout and my body language will be lagging. I can count numerous times when someone has walked over to talk to me and give the encouraging words to stay on track. Sometimes it’s as small as “When is your show?” or “How was your day?” that can get you going again and know that someone cares. Even at work when the boss comes by at work and says “Numbers look great, keep up the progress”. It puts a smile on your face and instantly in a good mood to work harder towards the goals you have set out.
I challenge you to be the one who encourages others when they are down in the gym, the office or involved in your life so they are more positive and return that favor towards others. Focusing on the positive and letting the negative go will allow you to become focused and achieve what you are striving for in all aspects of life. The encouragement I have received in and out of the gym has shown me that regardless of what you are doing there is a community and a team that want the best for you even if you don’t see it. Be a part of that team and help others the way they do for you even those you do not know, it makes a positive difference.
