As a competitive person, I have been faced with the challenge of comparing myself to others. I find myself thinking: I don’t look as good as she does. I am not as strong as she is. She has so much dedication to eating nutritious food. Derived from this mindset, I have set many goals strictly based on accomplishments of others.
Externally based goals can be motivating. They can be positive; however, I have found that when my motivation is from deep within myself I have more passion, desire, and purpose in achieving my goals. I am more accomplished when I am accomplishing things that fulfill that purpose and satisfy that passion.
Comparison is the thief of joy. After stumbling upon this quote, I have really been working on changing my perspective. I want to make my journey joyful. If I am focusing all my energy on what someone else has that I want, it is so much harder to appreciate what I have accomplished and all of the amazing people and opportunities that I have in my life.
If there are areas in your life that you wish to improve, strive to find reason within yourself to build a stronger you. Strive to be a better you. Never let anyone hold you back, because you can achieve anything that your heart desires. Find your happiness and really live it.
