Have you been working out so routinely that it is now an automatic behavior? You don’t even think about it, you just do? While the consistency in the positive behavior is great, we sometimes tend to lose sight of our “why” behind it all. One may be determined to drip in sweat on the treadmill to simply see a specific number on the scale, while another individual may be driven to maintain a fit body so they are able to run after their children and still have enough energy at the end of the day.
So what is it for you? What’s the driving force for waking up at 5am to get put through a grueling boot camp class? For me, I choose to stay fit for the way it makes me feel. I crave the feeling of feeling strong and healthy. There is nothing better than pushing myself in the gym and knowing that it will help me to be a better individual in all aspects of my life outside of the gym. I can sleep better, smile more, tackle challenges with less stress, and above all; live longer.
Have you ever connected a workout with seeing more and getting more out of life? If not, I challenge you to see beyond the miles on the treadmill and numbers on the scale. Maintain a desire to stay fit for a reason beyond weight loss, because, in reality, being fit is a journey within our lives. It is not a season that comes and goes; it is not a race with a start and finish line. It is a continuous process, a process that will not always take you in an upward direction.
There are going to be set-backs and days when you just want to give up, and it is in those times of struggle when we have to remind ourselves of the reason behind the madness. Remind yourself that any bit of activity will result in having more time to spend with the ones we love and see the beauties of life that not everyone will have the opportunity to experience. So, bring that to mind the next time your alarm goes off for that 5am boot camp class. I guarantee, it will not only make your workouts more meaningful, but it will make the sense of satisfaction afterwards truly something to celebrate!
