Pranayama is about harnessing energetic force through attention to breath. Yoga is a fitness practice as well as a breathing practice.
I am a beginner yoga student and I practice one or two times weekly. The awareness of inhaling and exhaling is important and being mindful of focus and strength during breathing and movement into a pose. My personal testimony is significant improvements in breathing and alleviating symptoms of asthma. Yoga also relieves anxiety and stress and improves circulation in the body and the mind.
In The Breathing Book, by Donna Farhi, seven questions are suggested to attune your breathing during yoga practice:
1. Location of the breath
2. Origin of the breath
3. Frequency of the breath
4. Phrasing of the breath
5. Texture of the breath
6. Depth of the breath
7. Quality of the breath
Yoga is a form of movement that will help you in mind, body, spirit, and work. Do not give up – you will see and feel results!
