Goals are important to have in mind when putting yourself up against weight loss, muscle building, or just being active period. What I think a lot of people forget sometimes is the number one goal we never seem to write down and that is “be true to yourself”. We spend a lot of time watching others get healthy and get fit but we spend little time realizing that all of our bodies are made different especially when it comes to shape, size, and composition. We all have those photographic moments when we picture another persons legs, abs, or back on our body. It’s called fantasizing and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I do it occasionally while flipping through magazines.
Do we always get what we see? Not at all. I have been training very hard and rigorous for about 6 months and I have yet to see myself look like any of my favorite bodybuilders or competitors. The one thing I have learned though is that I am me. My body has grown to be muscular and lean but I look like me and not anyone else. I love the lines in my legs, my six pack abs, and my muscular back. It makes my training a lot easier as well when I focus on myself and not what others look like.
Also, being true to yourself means to do what works best for you. We hear a lot of people go back and forth about what’s healthy, what’s not healthy, should you eat carbs, and etc but you have to learn which of those things works best for you. I have tons of friends who tell me “stay away from carbs!” Carbs are a big part of my meal plan and help me to lose and gain muscle along with my protein. Not everything that everyone tells you is going to be right. It doesn’t hurt to try new things as well. As stated before everyone’s body is different so learn to do what’s right for you and your particular goal. Just stay true yourself and your body.
