I’m a runner, I love to run and a few weeks ago I experienced a setback and slightly injured my hamstring. I was forced to slow down and take a break from running. The very idea of missing my morning runs saddened me but I became committed to work the recovery and my weekly physical therapy sessions. I told myself, no one is perfect and injuries happen.
After a week or so I got back out there and ran a few miles. I felt good and it felt amazing to just be running. I had a couple of ½ marathons lined up for the month of August. However, the smart voice of reason was telling me that I needed to reconsider.
So, what am I doing now? I’m running 5k’s and 10k’s and having a BLAST! I’m not stressing and I’m not training. I’m just having FUN! I’m running a pretty decent pace and enjoying it. I’m not running every day because I can’t. I need to take 1-2 days off between my runs to recover. I’m spending time on the foam roller and plenty of time strength training and I am totally fine with it!
My PR days this season are probably over and really that’s OK! We’re not perfect, things happen and we have to face them and deal with them! This little bump is just that, it’s a little bump and my long Saturday runs will return one day in the near future. For now, I’m going to have fun, run with my daughter, run with my friends and run for fun!
