Comparing your life to someone else’s is an easy trap to fall into. Someone will always have a better body, better eating habits, better clothes, better anything than you. It is so easy to forget that people are in different parts of their life journey. Envy is something that I have struggled with as an adult. “I wish I was as good as them at running, or eating right, or lifting.” I am learning to use this comparison and envy and turn it into a goal. I want to use my envy of that person as inspiration to get to that point.
I am learning to focus on my journey and where I want to end up. Remember that someone is looking at YOU and thinking how much they wish they were like you. You are always inspiring someone, even if you don’t feel inspired.
Maybe you can only bench 150 pounds, remember there is someone struggling to just lift the bar. Sure, you can only run 13 miles, remember there is someone struggling to get to their first 5k. You only lost 10 pounds? Remember there are people who would do anything to lose that much weight.
Making it to only three fitness classes this week may be tragic for you, but making it to one might be cause to celebrate for someone else.
Each person’s journey is unique. We should help to build each other up. Use your accomplishments to help fuel the fire of someone around you. Realize that even though you may not be at your best, someone else thinks your current journey is inspiring!
