Motivation and inspiration are two very hard things to find and maintain in the world today. With an typical environment that surrounds us as individuals is overcome with negativity and sadness, we as people need a little help to get the wheels of life moving. Some people find it easier than others, me personally I find it difficult with the hustle and bustle of work and personal life overwhelming me daily.
I needed to find inspiration and motivation on a daily basis recently. I was in the middle of a 12 week competition prep for a Men’s Physique competition and with the lack of calories and carbs running through me I was grabbing at anything to keep me on the path and keep me motivated. I always watched YouTube videos on bodybuilding and fitness but I never really leveraged them for more than general entertainment. However one morning while on the Stair Master (stairs to nowhere as I like to call them) I decided to watch a couple YouTube videos on my phone rather than listening to the same playlist that had been on there for 8 weeks now. When I did that the most amazing thing happened, I was truly focused right into the video and really listening to what they were saying. Many of these video authors where dubbing speeches and movie quotes into the videos, ones of great meaning and substance. I found myself immersed into this flood of positivity and desire to succeed not only at finishing my cardio but also making it through the day.
A very strange thing happened that week; I had been watching these videos and listening to these speeches every morning at 5:30am while doing my cardio and something clicked. I noticed I was in a better mood through the day. I had this ignition of fire lit under my derriere to actually be a better person and start looking at the brightside of things than just allowing what was thrown at me through the day to bring me down.
I have been providing my girlfriend and clients with morning motivational videos for the past couple weeks. I’ve asked them to listen/watch them when they do their morning cardio and if they don’t do morning cardio to listen/watch them when they are getting ready for the day first thing. The response in their mental state has drastically changed over these last few weeks. They are brighter, cheerier and have a greater outlook as they start their day. It’s a psychological stimulus that causes us as people to acknowledge greatness and embrace it, so why not have the first thing in the morning tell you “YOU ARE GREAT AND YOU CAN DO IT”.
Throughout the day, I have two sayings that resonate with me when things get bad or I’m having difficulty completing something that I’m working on whether it be personal or professional. The first is a quote from Rocky (the recent one) where Rocky is speaking to his son. He says “It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving”. That is so profound especially to start your day with, knowing that your strength mentally can push you through any obstacle that stands in your way. The second is a great one that I heard in passing. This one is “A dream without a plan is a wish”, which in its own right is amazing. If you want to complete something in life and it’s something you’re striving for whether it be a promotion, walk on stage, or in my case convert my career from a desk job to a Certified Personal Trainer full time, you have to make a plan. You can’t just expect someone to do it for you, you need to make your dreams come true and with a plan you can.
I’ll leave you with this… it’s not about how great you are today, but how better you are today than you were yesterday. Happy Journey!
