You will often hear people say, “just getting started is the hardest part” but now you’ve started and it’s a routine, is it all smooth sailing from here? I wish that were the case my friends but things only more challenging from here. I don’t mean to sound like a pessimist but I want to be honest with you- if you don’t keep yourself accountable, no one is going to do it for you. We all hit hard times, maybe your significant other broke up with you, maybe you lost your job, or maybe you just don’t have that drive you had in the beginning. So that begs the question “How can I keep myself on the right track with the going gets tough? Here are some things that have helped me keep moving in the right direction.
Tell someone you goal. Say it out loud, and make sure they heard you. If you tell someone else what you are working for it lets him or her know you are serious. Tell someone that can help you along the way, not just Tom from down the street, I’m sure he is a great guy but what can he do to help with my fitness goals. If you have a coach, a teammate, or a lifting partner let them know what you want to accomplish, they are the people who can help you stay on pace and not slip when the road gets rough.
Take progress pictures. You see yourself everyday so it is hard to notice all the progress you are making. These pictures could be done as often as every week, or as far apart as every month. Remember, you may not nee huge changes in every picture but hang on to them and compare them a few months down the road and I can promise if you’ve been working hard you will be happy with what you see. Rome wasn’t built in a day! You can also send these pictures to someone you look up to or respect, sometimes a fresh set of eyes can make a big difference.
You’ve started. It’s a routine. Don’t let a little hiccup stop you from achieving your goals! These are just some simple things that you can do that in the long run might help you get to where you want to be! Remember, we all have bad days but the best part is we get to try it all again tomorrow.
