If you know Football, you know how talked about the “40-yard dash” is. With the NFL Scouting Combine this past week all eyes were on former defensive end for the South Carolina Panthers, Jadeveon Clowney. Clowney officially clocked a stunning 4.53 second 40-yard dash this past Monday to lead all of the defensive linemen. Before running his official 40-yard dash, Clowney was confident in himself that he could run it in the 4.4 second range. Throughout the week he backed up that statement racking in times of 4.47 and 4.48 seconds. Official times at the Combine have always been slower than unofficial times across the board.
To put this in perspective, Clowney, who is 6’5”, weighed in at the NFL Scouting Combine at 266 pounds. His weight which was several pounds down from his college playing weight, definitely played a factor into his faster time. Other impressive 40-yard dash times among defensive linemen, and now slower than Clowney’s, were Bloomberg University’s Larry Webster (4.58), Shepherd University’s Howard Jones (4.60), Texas’ Jackson Jeffcoat (4.63), and Pittsburgh’s Aaron Donald (4.68).
