This past week Barcelona’s golden boy, Lionel Messi scored his 371st career goal to break the soccer club’s historic 87 year old record of 369, set by Paulino Alcantara. The soccer star broke the record after scoring his third goal of the match, setting a new record and beating Osasuna 7-0. Messi’s 25th hat-trick for Barcelona was his first since their Champions League win over Ajax in September 2013. That’s definitely not bad for a 26-year-old.
Messi has now had six consecutive seasons in which he has scored 30 goals. This in spite of being accused of not reaching the exorbitant levels which he has set in past seasons. Battling press and media can be very hard for any European soccer star, yet Messi has continued to break records and set new standards of play, game after game.
Currently, Messi has 67 goals in the Champions League, which is only a few goals away from breaking the all-time League record of 71, which was set by Raul Gonzalez. Not only is Messi famous for his incredible talent as an athlete, he is also known as one of the most humble and selfless players in the game today. With such skill and potential, Lionel Messi definitely Fits the Mark.
