Josh Donaldson, Third-baseman for the Oakland Athletics is becoming one of the most feared and respected athletes in the MLB. A quiet and humble man from Auburn University is heating up the American League conference with a .255 batting average, .816 on base percentage, 84 RBI’s and a jaw-dropping slugging percentage of .475. It is clear that Donaldson can hit with power, but it’s his laser sharp arm, mobility, and hard work ethic that makes him such a notable athlete.
As a small boy, Donaldson was always a gifted athlete, but under the shadow of a tragic past. His father, Levon, joined his brother and other family members in prison after pleading guilty to a 12 year sentence for sexual battery. “I saw the kids in my extended family going down that wrong path and I didn’t want to be part of that,” says Donaldson during an interview with ESPN. Despite being ranked as one of the top 5 third basemen’s, he was hardly an overnight success. After spending five and a half seasons in the minor leagues, he battled every day to overcome the challenges.
Donaldson continues to let the past fuel him towards success and remains level-headed in the process. He works hard every day, brings 100% effort to practice and continues to rip the ball out of the park and for this he Fits the Mark!
