We know how hard it is to stay in bed when it’s cold outside, rainy or snowy. We’ve compiled a few tips for you to help get you out of bed on time keep you motivated during the coming winter days to keep up with your goals and stay energized!
Turn up the heat. Keeping your room temperature warm will alleviate any excuse that it’s too cold to get out of bed. You can even go the extra mile and place your workout clothes in the dryer before hoping in the shower to be sure they’re nice and cozy when you’re ready to put them on.
Wake up naturally. There are many devices now that you can but to simulate natural lighting in your room. Your internal clock goes off during those spring and summer sunrises encouraging you to wake up! The Phillips ‘Wake-up Light’ is a great way to do just that. It comes with a built in alarm clock and the light gradually increases making it easier to rise and shine! It was also endorsed by the National Sleep Foundation. Can’t go wrong when the pros agree!
Shower the moment you rise. This should be simple. Heading straight from your bed after those grizzly morning stretch sessions in bed finish, having a plan to make a bee-line run to the shower will get your body circulation going immediately. Just make sure your bathroom is warm when you get out so you don’t jump right back in after stepping out to grab your towel.
Have an accountability partner. These are sometimes hard to come-by considering you don’t want to be let down by someone. The key is to have a similar goal and to make a pact to keep each other moving. An early morning phone call encouraging the other to get moving and meet up with them for a great workout is a great way to stay on track. Once the workout’s over, the celebratory ‘fist-bump and a BOOM!’ is earned.
See the bigger picture. Starting a calendar from January through December will help you visually. Write your workout down on each day and cross them off as you go. Keeping a food journal and progress pictures every 4 weeks will show you how far you’ve come even if you feel you’re in a rut. Researching further online for new, creative ways to workout indoors is really easy to do these days. You don’t have to take your workout outdoors all the time, but if you’re one for mother nature, make sure you’re dressing the part and the clothes are functional.
