Peyton Manning broke the NFL’s all-time touchdown record just like he’s played the quarterback position for the past 17 season, with humbleness and cold-blooded determination.
Manning walked into the game needing three scores to break the record Brett Favre previously held. He accomplished this task by halftime and wound up sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Manning connected with Demaryius Tomas on an 8-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, but unlike many others, this one meant a little more. Peyton Manning has always been one of the most effective quarterbacks in the NFL and consistently remains humble when the spotlight is shinned on him. A man who has totaled up 66,812 yards, a rating of 97.7 and now 510 touchdowns deserves some bragging rights. However, Peyton remained himself and responded to the media in the following way:
“Well it’s quite an honor, you know I have great appreciation for the quarterbacks that have played this game throughout the years, and so I’m honored just to play the position. It’s very humbling as well, it’s taken a lot of hard work. A lot of people have helped me to this point.” Brett Favre, came out on twitter immediately after the record was broke congratulating Peyton on the accomplishment saying, “Well deserved Peyton. Congratulations on breaking my record. #Onto600.” For sports fans, it is amazing to see such respect among athletes, so again, well deserved!
Three years removed from a lost season due to a neck injury that appeared career-threatening, Manning has come a long way and hasn’t changed one bit. Peyton has not only changed the way quarterbacks play the game of football, he has been a role model for all young athletes and is a class act that everyone enjoys to watch. So yes, I am thanking you Mr. Manning for breaking the record, and continuing to respect the game of football. There is no question that Peyton Manning Fits the Mark!
