Making sure your kids grow up strong and healthy is hard enough during the year, but it’s times like Halloween that really test your will. With all the temptations of Halloween treats, and the building excitement of dressing up and trick-or-treating, who has the heart to say no to their kids at this time of year?
Just like adults who have their cheat days, so too will your kids have theirs, and Halloween candy is the perfect cheat treat! The trick (or maybe, treat) is to keep meals healthy for the rest of the year. We asked Fitmark Ambassadors, Luke and Najla Kayyem of SICFIT Kids to help us out.
Luke and Najla Kayyem “are not your average 35+ year-old married couple with children.” They have built five gyms across the SouthWest and are the brains behind SICFIT – a global fitness community that thrives on events, challenges and competitions:
Now, with two beautiful children Kanon 8 and Camille 7, we have started our own set of family values and traditions, and have planted roots in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Having grown up in the SICFIT community, their kids Kanon and Camille have picked up some amazing life skills – communication, leadership, camaraderie, discipline, but fitness and nutrition have always been second nature:
We never leave the house without a bag packed full of healthy, delicious snacks and meals snuggly organized into one of our Fitmark coolers.
The Kayyems believe in eating a balanced whole foods diet and have educated both of their children on the importance of not just what to eat but why to eat it:
The lessons and principals that have kept us looking and feeling young, vibrant and energetic are now being passed onto the future of this world, and we take pride in educating them on the importance of lifestyle through fitness and nutrition.
Shopping for healthy food is another life skill the Kayyem kids have picked up from mom and dad:
Both kids enjoy grocery shopping with us and have learned to read all the labels, regardless!
Najla Kayyem actively posts pictures on Instagram of the homemade lunches she creates for her kids every day:
Other Mom’s think I’m crazy to prepare salads, brussel sprouts and protein shakes for my kids. For us, it’s not a diet but a way of life! If we do cheat, and we do, we always go for organic, gluten-free desserts, or we make our own treat – You are what you eat!
We just so happen to have five of those crazy kids lunches for you right now!

That’s five kids lunches or one whole week’s worth of healthy meal plans for your growing children. Is that crazy or what! The Kayyem kids thrive on this kind of diet and don’t crave for junk food or sweets the way other kids do who eat it every day. Najla says,
If something comes up and we have to let them eat Subway, Lunchables or the cafeteria food (which probably only happens twice a school year) they get disappointed with me!
Looks like Halloween candy in the Kayyem house will last well into the new year! Stay tuned for more healthy recipes and ideas to keep you and your family fit this holiday season.
