When we discovered that Fitmark Ambassador Gina Marie was a contestant from Big Brother 15, we knew she’d be a good person to talk to about working out away from home. When you’re locked inside a house for three months, how do you stick to your regular fitness routine?
Staying in shape during Big Brother was very challenging, Fitmark Ambassador Gina Marie
Gina Marie was active as a kid and has danced, she says, her entire life. She’s always loved a challenge. So when a fitness coach suggested she should consider competing at the fitness level, she was all over it:
Fitness and getting up on stage – sign me up! I knew it would be hard work, but I’m always up for a challenge!
Even after ACL surgery, Gina Marie didn’t let that slow her down. She “wanted to become even stronger than ever!” She told us:
I’m always extremely dedicated, and give 100% in everything that I do.
But fitness is not her only passion. Gina Marie was lucky enough to meet her boyfriend Garrett, who also competes:
I guess you can say I was meant to do this! A match made in fitness heaven!
Even more importantly, Gina Marie says, is her family who’ve “never had anything but undeniable support. They’re going through this experience with me, and keeping me pushing forward.”
So how did Gina Marie stay motivated and true to her fitness goals during Big Brother? She says:
Big Brother was amazing! It was a crazy experience, but I loved every second of it. I feel that it has made me an even better person in my everyday life, but staying in shape was a challenge. With no TV, Internet or even your cell phone for 3 months, all you really did was eat and sleep whenever you could. We had major comps that were physically grueling, but extremely fun! It was absolutely my favorite part of BB. They also had free weights, and very minimal lifting and cardio equipment in the backyard. Whenever the opportunity presented itself to go outside, I took total advantage. Although sometimes we would be locked inside while competitions were being set up. I had to find some way to stay fit, we used to run around the house, do yoga and dance every morning when we were woken by loud music. I definitely love to keep people motivated!
When it comes to being housebound for three months and staying in shape, Gina Marie’s an expert. But what about during the Holidays, when we sometimes find ourselves in a jam with no time left after all the shopping, eating and partying to work out? Gina Marie told us:
I stay in shape through the Holiday Season by relying on my circuit training. Mainly using jump squats, overhead dumbbell press and weighted lunges. It’s an easy way for me to keep my core tight, as well as work most major muscles. Plus, I go to dance class every week. I have been with the same dance studio for over 25 years. It definitely is fun and keeps me in top shape. But, also I can’t forget all of the delicious food that goes with the holidays, yummmm! But happy to know I have my super cute Fitmark bag to help with carrying around my healthy food that I need to eat to stay fit and healthy, so I won’t eat all that junk food. It definitely is a lifesaver. Plus, I also like the bag’s side pockets – perfect for keeping my makeup in!
One of those healthy recipes that Gina Marie likes to have on hand during the Holidays is some chocolate peanut butter cookies.
Eat The Bear Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
- 1 scoop of your favorite ETB Whey Pure Isolate Protein
- 2 cups quinoa flour
- 3-4 tbsp of water or coconut milk
- 1 tsp of coconut oil
- ½ cup of all natural peanut butter
- 1 tsp of baking soda
- 1 tsp of organic vanilla extract
- ¼ cup of organic oats
Mix well and place teaspoonfuls of the batter one-inch apart on a prepared baking sheet. Cook at 300°F for 20 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before eating. Store in a covered bowl for soft cookies.
So delicious! Everyone loves them! Even Santa (or so we’ve been told!) Thanks, Gina! You can follow Gina Marie on Instagram at GinaMarieZ
