This fitness story begins with a weightloss journey of 77 pounds, and the amazing transformation of Fitmark Ambassador Brianne Connor – aka @Bri_getsfit. To her 133K followers on Instagram, she’s something of an Internet sensation. She says she loves sharing her “transformation photos and telling people that they can do it too.” It’s such great motivation!
On the Road to Fit and Healthy
Bri has been heavy her whole life. She says, before her transformation, the only weight she “can remember is being over 200 pounds.” After only one year of slowly changing her unhealthy lifestyle and bad habits of a lifetime, Bri has gone from 266 pounds – “disgusted and disappointed” – to a happy and healthy 189 pounds. She says,
I did it for myself, and my future health.
With a family history of high blood pressure and heart disease, she didn’t want to experience the same health problems that her “dad and mom go through daily,” or take “the amount of medication they both take.” It was time to make a change. So she set herself the goal of losing 66 pounds. She wanted to be able “to fit into a size 14 jean from American Eagle.” She says,
One thing I always tell people is to take it slow. Don’t just put yourself into a crazy gym schedule and extremely strict meal plan. It took me months to get down to how little I eat now and how much I workout. Also, don’t be afraid to have an occasional cheat meal. You won’t gain all your weight back in one meal.
Any Weightloss Journey Begins with Small Steps
With the support of her boyfriend, Bri slowly started making the necessary changes she needed to succeed on her weightloss journey.
I started my journey with my boyfriend, and we took out 2 garbage bags full of junk food. It was hard, but I knew that if we didn’t have these foods in front of us that we wouldn’t be able to eat them.
We filled our house with meats, veggies, and fruits and stayed away from processed foods. I gave up coffee (because of the loads of cream and sugar I use), soda, and juice. I only drink tea and water now.
Get Motivated, Get Involved with Online Community
With sheer determination and the support of her growing online community, Bri was motivated to keep going. She said:
I started going to the gym about 4 times a week for 30-40 mins each time. I started slow on the treadmill and elliptical.
Then she signed up for her “first 5k and trained 3 times a week.” She says that “in only a month,” she “completed it without walking or stopping.” But it wasn’t always easy. She says:
I won’t lie though, I had plenty of setbacks where I stopped going to the gym for weeks, or ate foods that I knew weren’t good for me.
Once Bri got back on track, she made a schedule for herself and her gym time. She says,
I’d go 5 times a week for 1 hour. I took off Wednesdays and Sundays because it split up the week. I began loving the gym and the results I was getting.
Bri’s hard work began to pay off and she could see a difference in her energy levels. Setting goals, tracking her progress, and sharing her transformation journey online gave her the motivation she needed to change her life around for good. She said:
All of the kind words and motivation from people kept me going. I love showing my transformation photos, and telling people that they can do it too.
Now Bri is a Master Coach for DietBet and is motivating others to follow their own weightloss journey – because you just can’t beat the motivation and support of an online community. She says:
This year has been amazing and I’m so happy that I decided to make a change. My outlook on life has changed for the better. I know that if I can do it, anyone can. Just take it one step at a time and stay positive. There are plenty of people on Instagram, Facebook, plus friends and family that are rooting for you.
To date, Bri is 100 pounds down from her original target weight loss, and is currently three weeks out from her next half marathon. She says:
I read somewhere to make the gym your job, and your boss – “yourself.” Your boss doesn’t like it when you call in with a bad excuse! I kept that quote in my head and it helped me keep on schedule.
