Like so many women who struggle with their weight, Fitmark Ambassador Brittany Reilly believed that lifting heavy weights would make her big and bulky. She made a point of avoiding weight training and focused on running instead. She dedicated her fitness regimen to cardio and eating next-to-nothing. But the results were never ideal and she went from too heavy to too skinny – sound familiar? So she was pleasantly surprised when she finally tried weight training for the first time.
I have always been active but didn’t get into the fitness industry till Feb of 2014! I stumbled into the world of figure competitions at the same time I started lifting, and truly fell in love with the sport ~ Fitmark Ambassador Brittany Reilly (@breilly728)
Fitness, Passion and Persistence
It only took two years for Brittany’s husband to convince her to join him in the gym! But her first experience wasn’t what she was expecting. Frustrated, she began to doubt this kind of training. But after her husband explained how you need to trust in the process, Brittany started to embrace the sport and fell head over heels in love! She told us:
Fitness is unique to every person. Every person has a different body, a different metabolism, and finds different things that work for them. Never be discouraged by someone else’s progress if it’s faster that yours. Love your journey, every step. Each day is a day you are not guaranteed.
As a fitness professional, Brittany enjoys “meeting like-minded people.” She told us, “I have met the most genuine people in the industry.” And with the continued support of her husband, together they share a hobby and a healthy lifestyle that they both enjoy:
Talking about something that is a huge passion of mine with another person who understands exactly what I am talking about is amazing.

- Romanian Deadlifts!
Fitness is just one of Brittany’s passions. Photography is another, and she has made this her full-time profession. She says:
I am blessed with an incredible full-time job of capturing life’s precious moments. Holding a baby who is just a few days old, to meeting a newly engaged couple, I enjoy every single shoot.
For a busy, professional photographer and NPC fitness competitor, Brittany often finds herself on the road. Her next trip will take her half way round the world to the Arnold in South Africa, so we wanted to make sure she was well-prepared:
With such a busy schedule, finding work-life balance is one of those challenges that she just takes in her stride, as long as she stays on track. She told us:
Balance can be tricky to find. I think the biggest thing is to take it day by day especially when you are prepping for a competition. If you get sucked into thinking about show day and how far you have to go before you will be ready, you are missing the days you are given. Lots of focus is placed on the future, when living each day in the moment is a chance to better yourself.
Brittany’s Top 3 Fitness Tips
- Meal prep (I make things in bulk twice a week, so I always have food ready to eat so when I am hungry I am not tempted to go off plan)
- Make time for the gym (even if it’s early or late)
- Take progress pictures! Sometimes you forget how far you have come till you get to look back at pictures!
Nutrition and Meal Prep
As a big believer in meal prep, Brittany finds that prepping meals twice a week helps keep her and her hubby on track. Having the flexibility of working from home allows Brittany to schedule her fitness priorities around her photography business. But that doesn’t mean that she wants to spend hours and hours in the kitchen. When it comes to meals, “quick-and-easy” is always good advice. Here’s a quick recipe for those of you who have a sweet tooth and love chocolate pudding:
I love protein pudding! Super easy, with most protein powders you can just add water slowly to a cup of protein powder and it will get to pudding consistency! (My go-to breakfast EVERY day!)
The Sporting Life
When Brittany and her husband aren’t in the gym, they enjoy other sports like surfing and skiing. She told us:
I don’t necessarily follow a sports team, but I always watch the Dew Tour and the X Games (I’m a huge skier).
Brittany likes to keep things real on social media and enjoys interacting with like-minded people on Instagram – “I have so many friends I have made just through social media! And I love food Instagrams!” But, she says:
I don’t follow people based on how many followers they have, I follow humble real athletes! I love following fellow competitors!
Brittany’s Favorite Fitmark Bags
Meal Prep is so much easier! The containers are so durable and big that I can fit more than one meal per container! Having a cute bag to bring places (especially when I am traveling) makes meal prep more fun! My fitmark gym bag also has meal prep container in it, so I usually have a meal immediately after my workout! I love seeing others with fitmark bags, it’s a great way to spark up a conversation!
Brittany is living proof that lifting heavy weights won’t make you bulky, like so many women believe. In fact, ladies who lift know how hard it is to gain and maintain muscle mass, but that doesn’t stop them from going after it! Brittany’s story shows us that out of fitness comes passion, friendship, and a healthy relationship with food and body image. You just can’t go wrong!
