One person’s success story is often another’s inspiration, and social media is a great place to find it. Who doesn’t love progress pics? It’s the best way to track your hard work and keep you honest!
When Fitmark Ambassador Mallory Ming decided to share her weight loss journey on Instagram, she was amazed at what a positive influence it had on other young women trying to lose weight. She told us:
I don’t want to ever lift simply to build my own strength; I want to strengthen others by lifting them up.
This Is Generation Fit
By the time Mallory entered college, she was 35 lbs overweight. She decided then that it was time to get control of her health and started to make small, simple changes to improve her diet. She told us:
From 165 lbs to 130 lbs, I started what I thought was a simple, healthier routine like meal prepping and carrying my food with me, rather than eating fast food.
Then she started hitting the gym and working out regularly, and was starting to feel happier about her new lifestyle. Her love for working out grew and so did her influence online. She told us:
I find passion in training that grows with each rep I pump out and each challenge I set for myself. It’s seeing progress in my weight loss transformation and knowing how hard I’ve worked for it. But more importantly, It’s realizing that what I’m doing isn’t just impacting me, it’s impacting others in ways I never thought possible, and that’s what I love about it.
Mallory’s passion developed for weight training and she soon found herself prepping for her first fitness competition, all the while sharing her journey on social media. Since then, she’s gone on to qualify at the national NPC level 4X, and holds 3X Top 10 National Level titles. But she says:
I’m more than just a athlete. I’m a full-time Interactive Graphic Designer for a strategic digital marketing agency, lover of the arts, sand volleyball enthusiast, amateur chef, and friend. While I think it’s important to work on my fitness and health, I don’t live in the gym. I live by going out and experiencing things with my friends and family.
My Fitmark Bag plays a huge role in allowing me to go out and do those things, while still staying on track towards my goals.
Putting Her Best Foot Forward
In an effort to stand out from the rest and positively influence her online followers, Mallory’s goal is to keep a positive attitude and showcase her healthy lifestyle. She loves that she can help other women struggling with their own fitness goals. She says:
One of the biggest problems I hear from girls, has to do with thinking they are unable to transform their body. So many people think that they will always have the body type they have and are unable to get healthy or fit. Well the proof is in the pudding (& make mine chocolate please!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀
I was never someone who had ease losing weight. I actually believed that I was constantly trying so hard to reach my goals, but always felt disappointed, because I didn’t have “the genetics.” I wished I could trade bodies or certain parts with the girls who were “blessed with good genetics.
Comparison truly is the thief of all joy.
Screw genetics! After I started tracking my macros in college and getting on a workout plan that would actually consist of lifting more than 10 lb dumbbells — I realized that if I worked SMARTER and stayed consistent, I wouldn’t have to sulk in the thoughts of ‘my poor genetics’ stopping me from getting anywhere.
Transformation takes time. It’s take patience, persistence, and passion to be better everyday.
What’s In Mallory Ming’s Fitmark Bag?
Mallory credits her Fitmark Bag for helping her stay on track with her meal prep. Being prepared with your food and being able to transport it with you is the secret to sticking to your diet. She told us:
Food is fuel… and also the way to my heart. I’m probably one of the rare few that actually enjoys meal prepping, because I love being in the kitchen. (Did I mention I was an amateur chef?) My friends, family, and followers always tell me I should start a ebook for my healthy recipes.
Some of my staples in my diet are: protein pancakes, healthy chicken and waffles, and protein ice cream I’m just going to point out that sweets are obviously one of my weakness that I made into a strength!
Mallory Ming’s Top 3 Fitness Tips
1. Don’t do what everyone else is doing, just to do it. Working out should be fun! Find what makes you excited to go to the gym. Find what works for you!
2. ALWAYS be prepared. I take my meals with me everywhere in my Fitmark Bags, and even carry small snacks on me like almonds or FitCrunch Bars (my favorite protein bar) just in case of emergencies. I mean, you never know when that chocolate craving is going to hit.
3. Don’t sacrifice form for heavy lifting! Even if you’re able to do the weight temporarily, if you aren’t using proper form, you’ll end up hurting yourself in the long run.
