For a busy student like Fitmark Ambassador Jenna McLean, meal prep is something she relies on to stay on track, no matter how hectic her schedule gets. It’s a little trick she picked up when she was first training to be a nurse. Now as a full-time RN in a new job, she’s back at the books and studying for her BSN with meal prep always in hand!

Meal Prep Bag: the Shield
I just started my job as an RN and I am going back to school for my BSN so my schedule is super busy, with that on top of family and friends things can get crazy! That’s one reason I love meal prep so much! You don’t know what’s going to happen day to day, so if you at least have your meals ready and planned you know you can keep your nutrition on point and feel good about what you’re eating!
Planning and Preparation
Working full time as an RN and being a student is a busy workload to hold down. With 12-hour shifts and homework, it all takes a lot of planning and organization. Jenna told us:
Nursing school was really when I started meal planning a lot and now my Fitmark bag IS my daily routine! I put all my meals in it every day, and my meals are in the amazing tupperware containers that come with the bag (they NEVER leak)! When Jenna reflects on how she first got into fitness and how long it took for her to master everything from counting macros to planning her workouts. She told us:
Doing this was awesome and so much fun! It’s crazy to think back on my journey and how I got to where I am!!
On Point On The Job
Besides meal prep, Jenna has a few other tips up her sleeve for staying on track for busy students and people in the health field. She told us:
- DRINK WATER! Seriously, I know it’s basic but so many people forget and it makes such a huge difference in my mood, my body, and my energy!
- Listen to your body! If you feel so tired you are going to fall over, you probably don’t need to work out today and it will be perfectly fine! In the same sense, if you feel like you hurt yourself or something is really bothering you, take a rest day, stretch, heal!
- Fuel your body! You can’t build muscle without fuel! You can’t lose fat without fuel either! I stick to 80/20! 80% healthy whole foods that are good for your body, and 20% foods that are probably better for your soul 🙂
