Fit moms know a thing or two about raising fit, healthy kids. Take Fitmark Ambassador Giselle Falla for instance. As a busy mom of three, she says you need to be mentally tough to lead a healthy lifestyle. Mentally tough and prepared. It’s just one of three tips she recommends for other fit or wannabe fit moms.
Choosing a fit lifestyle over the comfortable one she had grown accustomed to, Giselle stopped making excuses and started going to the gym again. Her post-baby body and comfortable lifestyle had caught up to her and it was time to start making time for herself and more importantly, her health. She told us:
With 100% commitment and pure dedication I taught myself the importance of proper nutrition, supplementation and exercise in order to build muscle and live the healthy lifestyle that I wanted to and that I enjoy today.
Two years of training and working hard resulted in Giselle winning the title of Spokesmodel Team Labrada 2015 and landing a sponsorship deal with the brand. All the while raising three kids and running Redback One that specializes in tactical military training with her husband. It’s a positive change but you need to be mentally tough to face the challenge, she told us. Here are three other great tips on being a fit mom.
Top 3 Tips Of A Fit Mom
1. Make time for yourself
There’s absolutely no reason to feel guilty about making time for you! Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back from making the changes that you want; everyone deserves to be healthy, everyone deserves to enjoy fitness and most of all, everyone deserves to be happy.
2. Mental Toughness
You have to be mentally tough and prepare yourself for a lifestyle change, and come to the understanding that living a fit and healthy lifestyle is more of a marathon than a sprint. It takes time and it should be a lifelong journey.
Being mentally tough requires focus and a plan. Identify what it is that you hope to achieve and set a small goal. Something as simple as going for a walk or run each day. Or incorporate some weight lifting into your training session. It doesn’t have to be a huge goal that seems unattainable. After all, small steps add up to big results. You need to create a workout routine and meal plan that’ll help you to achieve the results that you’re after, which will ultimately help you to remain focused and committed. Once you’ve accomplished that goal, set another. If you don’t commit mentally to change and remain consistent, you’ll always be chasing it.
3. Eat well
This is the most important aspect of a healthy and fit lifestyle, and one that is often overlooked. Proper nutrition can be the hardest part for a lot of people, but eating healthy isn’t about huge dietary restrictions or eating bland and boring meals. You can eat healthy and still enjoy it. But you have to be committed to eating a well-balanced diet. Choose nutrient dense foods made up of protein, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, micronutrients and some good ol’ H2O.
Proper nutrition is key to preserving your overall well-being and achieving a great look. Your diet is what will ultimately help you build muscle, lose fat, look and feel great from the inside out. It will most definitely help you benefit from all the hard work you put into yourself. You can also allow yourself a treat meal once per week. Trust me! It’ll keep you sane while also helping stop you from bingeing on unhealthy foods. I eat pizza once per week, guaranteed! 🙂
For me living a healthy lifestyle means eating healthy but it also means enjoying treats in moderation. I’m not super strict with my diet; I don’t deprive myself of foods that I love. That may not necessarily be healthy for me, but as long as I remain consistent and committed through proper nutrition and exercise, I’ll be just fine and so will you. A healthy lifestyle shouldn’t make you unhappy nor should it feel like a chore, it’s all about having a healthy balance!
Staying On Track Starts With The Right Bag
To help keep her organized and on track with meal prep, Giselle relies on her Fitmark Bags. Even if she’s traveling to a fitness show, she uses her Fitmark Bags. Here’s what she told us:
My Fitmark bags always help me to stay organized and on track with my gear and my meals.
The TRANSPORTER BACKPACK – gym bag, meal prep bag, travel bag
The Transporter Backpack helps me when I need to pack more than just my gym gear and a meal. I use it when I take the family out to places such as the beach, the pool and waterpark or when I travel. The Transporter Backpack is huge and provides plenty of room for all my personal belongings, including my laptop and meals.
The SHIELD – meal prep bag
The Shield is amazing for things such as going to the park, not only can I pack my meal but I can also pack my kids’ meals, snacks and water bottles; it’s great! My kids love having access to it! I always use it for long distance travel such as my recent trip to the Lee Labrada Classic in Houston, TX. The Shield was perfect for packing my meals for travel day and it was very convenient to be able to access it while on the plane. Having my Shield with me meant that I was eating right and not falling for the many unhealthy temptations of travel food. Once I arrived into Houston, I stocked up on some healthy meals and packed them right into the Shield ready for the time that I would be working the show. So I was good to go with healthy options for the day. The Shield is also a great option for people that work full time away from home!
The ATHLETIC TOTE – gym and travel bag
The Athletic Tote is one of my favorites and it’s the bag that I get the most use out of! I bring it with me to the gym 5 days per week. It’s perfect for storing all of my gym essentials such as my weight belt, lifting gloves, water bottle, protein shake, BCAA’s, gym towel, keys, earbuds and my GoPro, because if you follow me on Instagram and Facebook, then you know I love sharing my workouts! The Athletic Tote has plenty of pockets and storage space, I absolutely love it, but then again I love all of my Fitmark Bags. You guys make a quality product that’s functional to my needs!
