Many people dream of becoming a model but few ever succeed by the age of 10. For Fitmark Ambassador Caylan Hughes, his early modeling career started out in TV and print ads, where he learned as a young boy the art of being in front of the camera. It’s a skill that came in handy later in life when he was faced with a career-changing decision.
Fitmark Ambassador: Caylan Hughes
Lifestyle: Model, Sponsored Athlete, Personal Training
Fitmark Bag: Transporter Backpack
Having grown up an active kid who loved athletics, Caylan has always been passionate about sports and competition, and the healthy pursuit of getting into shape. The drive to perform better at these sports earned him a promising future playing competitive soccer. But life had other plans.
After sustaining an injury, Caylan’s soccer career came to an abrupt end. It was time to switch tracks and pursue a different sport, the one of a fitness athlete and model. After a few phone calls to some contacts in NYC, an agency called Silver Silver Model Management hooked him up and he’s never looked back. He told us:
I’m very thankful for being a cover and fitness model. It has given me the opportunity to travel to some incredible places and also work with some great people.
Fitness models like Caylan make it look easy, but the work involved to get cover ready requires the discipline of an athlete. Though he was used to sticking to a strict workout routine, a specialized diet, and smart lifestyle choices, getting in shape for modeling required a different approach. Caylan told us:
Balance is key and it can be tough at times. I change up my training style often and tweak my diet to keep things fresh and fun.
Traveling and Meal Prep
Traveling is very much a part of Caylan’s job and the career of a fitness model. He loves traveling and enjoys spending time down by the water when he gets some time to himself. Whenever he travels he makes sure to take his meals with him. He told us:
Fitmark Bags have been HUGE in my daily life. I meal prep usually first thing in the morning or late at night before bed. I take my bag everywhere. It provides me the convenience of carrying all my meals wherever. When I fly, I love the TSA approved ice packs that let me take my meals on the plane.
Finding a balance, maintaining flexibility in your training program, and sticking to the program are all part of the mix that brings a fitness athlete to the cover of magazines. Caylan shared his top three tips with us:
