Planning ahead, staying on track, keeping organized, these are just some of the keys to getting into the best shape of your life. But what do these strategies mean in practice? We turned to our amazing ambassadors to get the inside scoop on getting results.
TRACK YOUR WORKOUTS AND NUTRITION
Let’s begin with Fitmark Ambassador Alyx Ulbrich, an amazing athlete with a wealth of knowledge in the nutrition and health science field. She has a natural approach to fitness based on holistic healing, natural cure, and wholefood-based ideals. As a registered dietitian, personal trainer and soon-to-be doctor of naturopathic medicine, she’s one woman you can turn to for advice.
In our last interview with Alyx, she shared with us her Top 3 Fit Tips:
Fitness Tip #1: Track your workouts and nutrition to learn what you can do to improve and keep yourself honest!
Whether your fitness goal is to lose weight or gain muscle, tracking your workouts and nutrition is important if you want to see results. Like Alyx says, it’ll keep you honest and it’s a lot easier with an online tracker like MyFitnessPal. It’s also a great idea to enrol the help of a personal trainer like Alyx to get you started and on the right track. She told us:
Every day I get to be a part of someone’s journey to a healthier, happier, more enjoyable lifestyle for them and their families! Fitness Tip #2: Prepare your meals for each day prior or in the morning. If you are set up for success with a plan, you will end up making better choices!
Preparing your meals ahead of time and packing them in your meal prep bag is the only way to stick to your nutrition plan. If you leave the house without a bag full of food, you’ll end up reaching for something fast and convenient and loaded with fat. Meal prep is always the better choice!
Fitness Tip #3: Consume more water – people are chronically dehydrated and often confuse hunger with thirst! Avoid being thirsty and you will save yourself all sorts of trouble. 😉

FORGET THE SCALE!
Once you’ve defined your fitness goals and you’ve devised a workout and nutrition plan, you’ll need some motivation to help you stay on track. According to Fitmark Ambassador Brittany Coutu, setting daily goals is a great way to keep you motivated. A daily goal could be drinking more water! Or something that might challenge you. Whatever your daily goal, you’ll feel a sense of achievement once you reach it and that’ll keep you motivated for sure.
As a fitness athlete, diet coach and personal trainer, Brittany has worked with a lot of people to help them reach their fitness goals. Motivation for her comes from the mental aspect of being physically fit and staying in shape. One of the first things she tells her clients is:
Forget the scale and base your progress off of pictures and how your clothes fit.
People get obsessed with the scale and the truth is, your weight can fluctuate throughout the day, not to mention from day to day. So stay off the scale! It’ll only end in tears! The number one thing to remember, Brittany says, is:

Fitmark Ambassador Angela Okon started her own fitness journey from a place where partying took priority over health. She was brave enough to step into a gym and learn the ropes the hard way and now runs her own online coaching business – Okon Fitness. She understands that sometimes people need a more guided and personal approach to getting in shape.
For her Top 3 Fit Tips, Angela told us:
- Routine is everything. If my routine is off it can throw off my entire day. Having a good schedule makes the difference between a successful day and failure.
- Organization. I have to have my life organized, this goes well with routine, having everything in its place keeps me on track, especially being that I’m scatterbrained!
- Plan ahead. My meals are always prepared in advance for the week. If I know what my next meal is, and when it is, it leaves no room for guesswork.
