Restricting the food you eat so you can shed some weight is so old school! Getting in shape doesn’t have to be that way. With a more balanced approach, you can eat the foods you love and still get healthy. The secret is flexible dieting and it’s an approach that Fitmark Ambassador Jeanne Marie found worked for her when she was slimming down and every day since then.

Meal Bag: the Shield
I am a firm believer in flexible dieting and not restricting any foods in my daily diet, because it’s sustainable. Your fitness journey shouldn’t be a fad or a crash diet. I love teaching that to my wonderful clients.
Jeanne Marie lost 35 pounds by eating healthy and not restricting her diet. It took her about a year of trial and error, tracking her calories and researching the best workouts for the gym, but it paid off. Now she’s sharing her experience with her clients and helping them eat smarter and get in shape. She told us:
It’s so inspiring when my clients realize how simple it can be to change their life and knowing I played a small role in their happiness and self-confidence. With flexible dieting, I lost 35 lbs and transformed my own life from the inside out. I’m so proud of what I accomplished physically and mentally and it’s so motivating when my clients tell me they never thought they could do the things they are doing now.
Flexible Dieting Is Sustainable
Flexible dieting is all about changing the way you eat so you can live a healthy lifestyle every day. It’s no good going on a crash diet, losing the weight, and then returning to your old eating habits. That’s a recipe for disaster and unfortunately a trap of most fad diets. With flexible dieting, it all starts with three simple steps:
- Setting your weight loss goal
- Assessing your total calories for the day
- Breaking them down into several portion sizes or meals throughout the day
Figuring out what works best for you can be tricky so it’s a good idea to use a fitness tracker and an online fitness coach to get you set up and well on your way. Everyone’s body is different and even the slightest tweak in your diet can make all the difference. Jeanne Marie told us:
When I first started out on my fitness journey, I would go to the store and buy anything “healthy looking.” I would meal prep containers full of chicken, rice, broccoli, lettuce, “organic snacks,” and place them into my Fitmark meal bag and take them with me and eat them. I had no idea that to lose fat I needed to eat at a deficit. I just knew I was starting somewhere. Thinking back on how I thought people achieved their goals and my knowledge now blows my mind. It was a happy moment when I learned I could eat whatever I wanted in moderation.
Everything In Moderation
That’s right! You don’t have to restrict the foods you love just because you want to slim down. As long as you stick to healthy food choices for more than 80% of the time, there will always be room for pizza, chips and chocolate! That’s flexible dieting.
Meal Prep and Flexible Dieting
If you’re serious about staying on track and sticking to your healthy eating plan, you’ll need to get into the habit of preparing your food ahead of time. Being able to take your meals with you wherever you go is the the only way you’ll stay on track and meal prep is the secret. Jeanne Marie told us:
I seriously love my Fitmark Bags and the convenience of being able to keep my meals cold and with me, especially while flying. I work full time, take 18 credit hours, am doing an internship and am frequently traveling so I ALWAYS have my Fitmark Bag with me to keep me on track. It’s usually filled with everything from protein sources to cookies.
What About Exercise?
Flexible dieting, Fitmark Bags and cookies – sounds like a recipe for success! But what about exercise? It’s all part of the equation to getting into shape and part of the program that Jeanne Marie sets up for her clients at JMarie Fitness. It’s also the addictive part because everyone who commits to a regular exercise program will experience their own transformation. She told us:
The number one tip that I find myself telling my clients is push yourself and be consistent. Results don’t happen overnight, but with consistency you will gradually see the results you’re seeking in a healthy, sustainable manner. And always, always push yourself until you’re giving 150%. If you work for something and truly put in the work, the results will come and you will be rewarded.
Jeanne Marie’s passion for fitness is something she also shares with the kids she works with in Haiti. As part of a teacher education program to help local schools manage with limited resources, she goes “into orphanages, villages, and rural towns to run week-long camps for the children.” She told us:
They live and breathe soccer! We organize games for them and organizations donate goals, soccer jerseys, indestructible soccer balls, and the fan favorite – water bottles! I have a sponsor son at an orphanage near and dear to my heart, All My Heart Haiti. My long-term goals are to go down on a more regular basis and establish something, maybe an orphanage. Currently, I travel down there 2-3 times a year and I always have a Fitmark Bag riding shotgun!
That’s just another aspect of flexible dieting and why it’s the perfect solution for sticking to your healthy lifestyle – no matter where life takes you. As long as you have your meals packed and ready to go, you can eat healthy anytime, anywhere, any place. Just ask Jeanne Marie!
