Ever wonder how some people are able to stay organized and stick to their fitness goals despite their busy schedules? Staying on track is a challenge at the best of times, but when you’re a full-time student holding down a job, it can sometimes seem impossible. We checked in with Fitmark Ambassador Kristy Marie, a busy nursing student and former professional cheerleader, to find out how she manages to stay organized.
Kristy is a busy, nursing student with a full-time schedule and many interests and occupations on the side. So how has she managed to stay on track with such a physically demanding schedule? The secret lies in meal prep. She told us:
Diet and meal prep all come naturally to me because I’ve always enjoyed healthy foods and having my Fitmark Bag is part of my daily routine. I’m presently studying for a CRNA/Nurse Practitioner degree and my bags really make it easy to stick to my healthy lifestyle.
Staying on track and eating healthy became a habit for Kristy in high school as a busy gymnast and lover of sports. But it was during her career as a professional cheerleader that Christie really started to amp things up with her training and nutrition. She told us:
Being a professional cheerleader introduced me to a different type of training and athletic club. I trained 5-6 days weekly for 6 years. Many people asked what I did for a living and I laugh because I got everything from figure skater, gymnast, fighter and tennis player!
Now as a nursing student, Kristy loves learning about “how the human body functions as a whole.” She says it has broadened her understanding of fitness, diet and training and that can only help with her fitness career. (With three wins under her belt as a fitness competitor, Kristy went all the way to the Nationals). With so much going on and long shifts at the hospital, planning and prepping her meals has always been the solution to staying on track and meeting her goals.
Packing my lunch and dinner for long work days at the hospital keeps my food cold and fresh throughout the whole shift. I’m still maintaining and improving my fitness levels despite the fact I’m extremely busy completing my nursing degree.
Nutrition is a priority if you want to continue to eat healthy throughout your life and meal prepping is part of that plan. To add some variety to her healthy meal plan, Kristy recommends experimenting with some healthy recipes. She told us:
I have so many favorite healthy recipes, but right now I’m enjoying my fresh pressed juicer. I create many concoctions but find using cucumber, apples, celery and greens are the best and my favorites because they produce a lot of juice. (Tip: for kale or spinach a blender is best).
For students who want to know the secret to staying healthy, it’s all about planning ahead and packing your meals with you. Kristy has some more helpful tips right here:
