What you might not realize when you start out on your fitness journey is how much of a positive impact it will have on those around you, especially your kids. They watch your every move and seeing you live your healthy lifestyle will undoubtedly rub off on them. Fitmark Ambassador Carol Kuster agrees:
It’s definitely not easy juggling being a good mom, staying fit, and making health part of your family’s lifestyle. But once you achieve it, it’s priceless to see your kids wanting to follow in your footsteps and making healthy choices for themselves.

Living a healthy lifestyle and being active every day changes your life to such an extent, it affects everyone around you. It’s contagious! You’re more vibrant, have loads more energy, and enough stamina to keep going throughout the day. Carol says:
Being active showed me that there’s no limits to what my body can achieve. It’s like I have superpowers or something!
How Do You Balance Work, Life and Being a Fit Mom?
Like Carol said, it’s not easy juggling everything when you’re a busy parent. It takes practice and discipline to stick to the program no matter what. After a while, it gets easier and easier, until eventually you just fit into a groove. Carol told us:
I firmly believe that maintaining an active lifestyle should be one of our top priorities in life. Only by taking care of ourselves do we stand a chance of being the kind of person we strive to be on the job, at home with our loved ones, and in our communities.
But where do you start and how do you stay motivated? Everyone has their own technique, their own motivators to kick them into gear. For Carol, she told us:
I started by finding solutions for my excuses. When there is a will, there is definitely a way!
Your Kids Can Motivate You
When you have kids, it gives you incentive to keep proving to them how important being active and healthy really is to your quality of life. When they see how much fun you have staying fit and eating healthy, they won’t even question it. Carol told us:
I like to say that in living a fit lifestyle, I’m actually giving a gift to my kids, teaching them the importance of fitness, and helping them make good, healthy choices. I even work out with my oldest daughter, which can be a great way to stay connected as a family.
Set Priorities and Stick To Them
Making healthy priorities means sticking to them every day. As a mom, your workout time is sacred and needs to be scheduled into your day as a priority. You need that physical outlet to stay fit and sweat out the stresses of the day. When your family sees how beneficial it is for you, they’ll forgive you taking time out away from them. Carol told us:
It’s ok to be a little selfish. If you don’t make time for yourself, you won’t have as much of you to give to those depending on you. You don’t have to think of it as taking time away from your family, think of it as giving back to them with a more energetic, vibrant, and healthy you.
To stick to her healthy lifestyle, Carol schedules her workout into her calendar and also sets time aside for preparing her food. She says, “Meal prep is the key to a successful diet!”

Whether your goal is to lose weight or simply get into shape, Carol has three tips to help get you there:
Top 3 Weight Loss and Fit Tips
- Eat a high protein breakfast. It will keep you more satiated throughout the day.
- Don’t ever skip a meal. Your metabolism will stay low since it doesn’t know when the next supply of calories is coming. Lose weight by eating smaller, healthier meals.
